Xinyan joined BBC News in 2012 as a producer covering the Asia Pacific region based in Beijing, China.

 

From the umbrella movement in Hong Kong to the Rohingya refugee crisis, she led international filming crews in the coverage of a series of major breaking news events.

In 2018, Xinyan became a founding member of Inkstone, a news start-up delivering a daily digest of China-focused stories for a global millennial readership.  

In the same year, she moved to New York and launched the North America video team for South China Morning Post.

In 2020, Xinyan rejoined BBC News as a senior video journalist at its Washington DC bureau, covering US domestic news, including the 2020 presidential election.

She also produces the BBC's mobile-focused show Cut Through the Noise exclusively on Facebook Watch.
